On August 6, 2024, a company from Ningxia, China, in conjunction with a Saudi company and two provincial-level key laboratories of Ningxia University, held a signing ceremony for the agreement on the joint construction of the Saudi “Photovoltaic Smart Agricultural Water-Saving Technology Park” (hereinafter referred to as “the Park”) and the “Smart Constant Temperature Water-Saving Photovoltaic Huts” (hereinafter referred to as “PV Huts”).
The project plans to build the Park (an area of 10000 mu or 6.67 km2) and the PV Huts (an area of 100 mu or 667 m2) within 5 years at the Hongsibu Industrial Park in Ningxia, China and the Prince Nasser’s Agricultural Base in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It also aims to demonstrate and promote 70,000 typical templates, mainly consisting of smart constant temperature water-saving PV greenhouses, for water-saving agriculture, leisure tourism and health and wellness in the arid areas of China and Arab countries and other Belt and Road partner countries, with an expected output value of $ 1.06 billion.
According to Professor Sun Zhaojun from the project’s R&D team, after years of hardwork, the project’s technology has solved the problem of difficult temperature control in traditional greenhouses, achieving year-round constant temperature, and successfully breaking through the “bottleneck” of agriculture in arid areas. At the same time, leveraging the China-Arab technology transfer platform, it has attracted numerous Arab enterprises seeking cooperation.
In recent years, Ningxia has carried out economic and trade cooperation with Arab countries by the advantageous platform of the China-Arab States Expo, and has actively explored China-Arab scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation by fully support the role of the China-Arab Technology Transfer Center (CASTTC). To date, CASTTC has successively built eight bilateral technology transfer centers in the Arab League, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, etc., becoming an important channel for China-Arab scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation. According to Mr. Wu Lifeng, the director general of the CASTTC, through bilateral exchanges and cooperation, a growing number of technologies have been demonstrated and commercialized in Arab countries, and a group of technical talents from 22 Arab countries have been cultivated.
